KWPL experience giving Madira easier ride in School Games
Vihiga County champions Madira Girls High School Principal
Mildred Senerwa says the Kenya Women Premier League which they competed in last
season gave them the impetus needed to shine in the school championships, which
they swiftly won.
Senerwa says the KWPL helped Madira a big deal to remain on toes throughout the hence giving the Madira Soccer Assassins an easy ride through the just concluded Vihiga County Secondary Schools football competitions.
Although they failed to keep their KWPL slot at the end of their
first campaign in the top league, Senerwa is proud they showed class above
their peers in the school games.
“Although we failed to impress in our first attempt in the top tier league, it helped us keep the players on the pitch throughout the year. Our County championship campaign began a few days after the end of the 2023/24 KWPL season and so our players at their best, fully fit,” Senerwa said.
The Madira Principal believes the
school is a powerhouse for young soccer talent, underlining the measure of
success cannot be solely viewed from the Premier League perspective.
“We were relegated from the KWPL but our four players were
called up to the National Under-17, and are now gearing up for FIFA World Cup
set for October in Dominica Republic. Other clubs have also expressed interest
in some of our players.
“If absorbed by those clubs, it will be another benefit for the
players and the school,” Senerwa stated, adding that a total of 15 players from
her school have been part of Kenya national teams.
Madira not only shone in football, as they will also won the rugby title in the girls’
category.
Senerwa acknowledges it will take hard work from players and the
coaches to ensure the Vihiga Constituency-based secondary school roars to the
nationals.
