Kabarak University's indoor sports teams are gearing up for the Kenya University Sports Federation (KUSF) national games after their impressive performances saw them clinch Rift Valley regional titles at the University of Eldoret last weekend.

The teams bagged chess, table tennis, badminton, and karate titles unbeaten, a feat that has hugely boosted their confidence ahead of the national games scheduled for February 22nd and 23rd next year in Western Kenya.

In karate, the men's and women's teams clinched first place while securing second and third positions in the kumite category.

Karate ladies captain Mapenzi Safari credited their success to the hard work and thorough preparation invested by the teams.

"We had foreseen the win because of the effort we put in. We knew that with our hard work, we were destined to succeed.

“The effort we have made this semester is worth it, and we are confident we'll do well in the upcoming nationals," Mapenzi said.

The badminton team also emerged victorious, winning all their matches in a competitive six-team pool.

Skipper Trevor Oduol praised his teammates for their outstanding performance and expressed optimism for the national competition.

"The competition was tough, but we're thrilled to secure the win after such a long time.

“Now, we're training hard and smart for the national games, where our goal is to claim the top spot. It won't be easy, but I believe we can achieve it," Trevor noted.

Elsewhere, Kabarak's chess women's team, who are the reigning champions at both regional and national levels, maintained their dominance, with Captain Yasmin Mutheu expressing confidence in retaining their crown.

"Our game was challenging, but we secured first place. We played passionately, embraced teamwork, and strongly desired to learn from one another.

“As we head to the nationals, we're thoroughly preparing to ensure we retain our trophy," Yasmin said.

The table tennis men's team also qualified for the nationals after emerging first runners-up at the competition.
