KSSSA: Musingu off to a flier as national games get underway in Kakamega

The Kenya Secondary Schools
Sports Association (KSSSA) national Term II games kicked off on a high in
Kakamega County on Tuesday with Western region football champions Musingu High
School, their Rift Valley counterparts St. Joseph’s Kitale, and Kesogon Girls (volleyball)
winning their opening matches.
Musingu High,
commonly known as the Scorpions, walloped Eastern Champions Moi High Mbiruri 5-1
before a fully packed Mumias Sports Complex Stadium.
Rift Valley
Football Champions St. Joseph's Kitale-Jobo shocked Nairobi Champions Highway
Boys 3-1 in Kakamega Town, while Kirangari from Central defeated Serani from
Coast 2-0.
National Champs
Butere Girls also shone at Mukumu High School with a 5-0 thrashing over
St. Charles Mulli.
In Volleyball
Girls, Rift Valley champions Kesogon showed Soweto dust with three sets to nil
(25-12, 25-14, 25-19) to warn opponents and show their intent to finish top in this year’s national games.
Defending
champions Kwanthanze Girls have also started powerfully by nailing Nyakongo
three sets to nil in 25-12, 25-14,25-22.

In Mumias Sports
Complex danger boy Marvin Ashihundu pulled a hat-trick to help Musingu High
silence Mbiruri High of Eastern.
With Musingu as the home team enjoying the tremendous support of the crowd, Manani Kevin was the first to
score in the 23rd minute before Mbiruri equalized seven minutes
later.
Musingu went in
front for the second time through Austine Oluoch, while
Ashihundu struck second and third for the head coach, Brendan Mwinamo, in the 36th minute.
His brilliant
goal came after wriggling past the Mbiruri goalkeeper to send the crowds on their
feet, led by DCP deputy party leader Cleophas Malala.
The Scorpions
scored their fourth goal through Ashihundu to complete his first hat-trick in
this year’s national school games, while Quimba Shabana scored their fifth in minute 78.
Musingu could
have had seven goals had Ashihundu and his frontline teammates been clinical before the goal.
