The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national Term II games kicked off on a high in Kakamega County on Tuesday with Western region football champions Musingu High School, their Rift Valley counterparts St. Joseph’s Kitale, and Kesogon Girls (volleyball) winning their opening matches.

Musingu High, commonly known as the Scorpions, walloped Eastern Champions Moi High Mbiruri 5-1 before a fully packed Mumias Sports Complex Stadium.

Rift Valley Football Champions St. Joseph's Kitale-Jobo shocked Nairobi Champions Highway Boys 3-1 in Kakamega Town, while Kirangari from Central defeated Serani from Coast 2-0.

National Champs Butere Girls also shone at Mukumu High School with a 5-0 thrashing over St. Charles Mulli.

In Volleyball Girls, Rift Valley champions Kesogon showed Soweto dust with three sets to nil (25-12, 25-14, 25-19) to warn opponents and show their intent to finish top in this year’s national games.

Defending champions Kwanthanze Girls have also started powerfully by nailing Nyakongo three sets to nil in 25-12, 25-14,25-22.

Moi Girls 3-0 (sets) Kinale  (25-16, 25-14, 25-17)

Sulumeti 3-0 (sets) Eldas (25-4, 25-5, 25-10)

In Mumias Sports Complex danger boy Marvin Ashihundu pulled a hat-trick to help Musingu High silence Mbiruri High of Eastern.

With Musingu as the home team enjoying the tremendous support of the crowd, Manani Kevin was the first to score in the 23rd minute before Mbiruri equalized seven minutes later.

Musingu went in front for the second time through Austine Oluoch, while Ashihundu struck second and third for the head coach, Brendan Mwinamo, in the 36th minute.

His brilliant goal came after wriggling past the Mbiruri goalkeeper to send the crowds on their feet, led by DCP deputy party leader Cleophas Malala.

The Scorpions scored their fourth goal through Ashihundu to complete his first hat-trick in this year’s national school games, while Quimba Shabana scored their fifth in minute 78.

Musingu could have had seven goals had Ashihundu and his frontline teammates been clinical before the goal.
