The simmering rivalry between Kabras Sugar RFC and KCB Rugby has taken another dramatic turn after the Kenya Rugby Union Fixtures Committee ruled on the controversial abandonment of their Kenya Cup match, a decision that now raises the stakes heading into the decisive phase of the domestic season and the looming Enterprise Cup knockouts.

Match day ten of the Kenya Cup and the KRU Championship was anything but routine. Three fixtures failed to reach full conclusion, forcing the union’s fixtures committee to step in and deliver verdicts that could shape both league standings and momentum heading into the postseason.

The most consequential decision involved the heavyweight clash between Kabras Sugar and KCB Rugby.

The match, which had been abandoned during play, will now stand as it was at halftime after the committee ruled that the score at the moment of stoppage would be upheld as the final result.

The ruling effectively locks in the outcome from the first half, a move that preserves valuable points in what is shaping up to be a razor-thin title race.

Following the decision, Kabras remain top of the Kenya Cup standings with 47 points, while KCB trail closely with 45 points.

With the margin between the two giants sitting at just two points, every result in the remaining fixtures carries championship-level consequences.

The rivalry, already the defining storyline of Kenyan club rugby in recent seasons, now heads into its final stretch with even greater tension.

Elsewhere, the committee awarded Mombasa RFC a 28–0 victory over Mean Machine RFC after determining competition regulations had been breached. Mean Machine were also docked two league points following the decision.

In another disrupted fixture, the Kenya Cup meeting between KU Blak Blad and Impala RFC has been rescheduled to a midweek clash ahead of the final round of league matches, with Blak Blad retaining hosting rights.

Yet the drama does not end with the league. Both Kabras and KCB must quickly shift focus to the knockout rounds of the prestigious Enterprise Cup, which this year features a historic cross-border format with Ugandan clubs.

The quarterfinals on March 21 will see KCB travel to Kampala to face Black Pirates, while Kabras take on Heathens RFC in another high-profile clash.
