Evans Omondi and Gilbert Odhiambo scored the Zetech tries in
both halves, to secure the win for the Oaks.
Speaking after the match, Zetech Oaks head coach Ramsfield
Matekwa expressed his joy at securing a win in their opening match lamenting
his team’s failure to capitalize more on the numerous chances they had in the
match.
"Kudos to the team for the win, but I think we had a
lot of chances but we failed to utilise. We could have won by more. We will go
back at the drawing board and work more on our finishing," he said.
Homeboyz RFC head coach Stephan Otum slammed his team for
their poor performance saying they deserved to lose.
"It's a disappointment I can say because what we
executed in the training ground, is not what we played today."
"We accepted easy mistakes that led to us losing the
match. We will go back at the drawing board and I believe we will come back
stronger," he added.
Zetech Oaks secured an instant return to the KRU
Championship after suffering relegation to the nationwide league a season ago
and coach Matekwa says they are determined to give their best with the hope of
securing promotion to the Kenya Cup.
"We are making our debut in the championship, we have a
strong and young team and we are ready to compete.”
In other fixtures, Masinde Muliro started their KRU
championship campaign on a high after thrashing fellow varsity side Mean
Machine 36-6 at their Masinde Muliro grounds in Kakamega.
