The Kenya Rugby
Union (KRU) has officially announced the vacancy for the position of Kenya
Sevens National Team Manager, inviting qualified and passionate individuals to
apply ahead of the 21st July 2025 deadline.
Applicants must
be Kenyan citizens with a post-secondary qualification, at least three years of
relevant experience, and certifications in Rugby Ready, Safeguarding, and World
Rugby Laws. Responsibilities will include logistics, administration, budget
oversight, and acting as the communication bridge between the team and KRU.
The new manager
will replace Morgan Ngumbi, under whose leadership Shujaa showed resilience and
determination after rejoining the World Series following their relegation and
subsequent promotion.
This critical
recruitment comes at a time when Shujaa, Kenya’s Sevens team, is navigating a
transitional phase following a demanding 2025/26 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series
campaign.
Shujaa started
the season in Dubai, finishing 10th and earning 3 points. In Cape Town, they
bounced back with a stronger performance, finishing seventh after beating Great
Britain 32-17 and moving to ninth in the overall standings. The form fluctuated
in Perth, where they placed 10th again after a narrow 19-12 loss to New
Zealand. In Vancouver, they had a tough outing, finishing last with a 19-14
loss to Ireland, but maintained their 9th place ranking.
Hong Kong showed renewed promise despite a
narrow 19-17 loss to South Africa. The highlight of the season came in
Singapore, where Shujaa finished second, losing to Fiji in the final, an
emphatic statement of their comeback potential.
Despite the
team’s efforts, Shujaa will now compete in HSBC Division 2 for the 2026 season
due to World Rugby’s restructuring. As the Union prepares for this new chapter,
the incoming Team Manager will play a vital role in stabilising and supporting
the squad through this transition.
