Krop runs 5,000m world lead as Chepkoech, Moraa shine at Brussels DL

World 5000m silver medallist Jacob Krop ran a world leading time in the men’s 5000m at the Brussels Diamond League on Friday night.

The in-form Krop crossed the finish line in 12:45.71 to smash the previous mark of 12:46.33 held by compatriot Nicholas Kimeli who came in third in 12:50.97 after American Grant Fisher who finished second in 12:46.96

Commonwealth 10,000m silver medallist Daniel Simiu and Cornelius Kemboi attained new personal best as they placed fifth and 10th respectively.

On her part, Commonwealth Games 800m champion Mary Moraa smashed the national 400m record after clocking 50.67

Commonwealth 3000m steeplechase champion Jackline Chepkoech continued her dominance over the distance when she chalked victory in a new personal best of 9:02.43.

Reigning World Under-20 champion Faith Cherotich making her debut at the Diamond League finished fifth in a new PB of 9:09.63

Olympic and world 800m champion Emmanuel Korir settled for third in the two-lap race after clocking 1:44.12 behind Britain’s Jake Wightman (1:43.65) and Djamel Sedjati (1:44.12) respectively.

The 2022 Diamond League series concludes next week with a two-day final in Zurich, Switzerland.
