Reigning FKF Premier League champions Kenya Police FC were
left ruing missed opportunity after throwing away a two-goal lead to settle for
a 2–2 draw against Kakamega Homeboyz in a pulsating encounter at a packed
Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.
Police looked in complete control early on, stamping their
authority within the opening quarter-hour.
Midfielder Marvin Nabwire broke the deadlock in the 10th
minute with a well-taken strike before Charles Ouma doubled the advantage 14
minutes later, seemingly putting the visitors on course for a vital away win
that would have propelled them into the league’s top three.
But Homeboyz, buoyed by their vocal home support, emerged
from the break with renewed intensity and purpose.
Their pressure paid off in the 55th minute when defender Potiphar
Odhiambo found the net to cut the deficit, igniting belief among the hosts.
Barely three minutes later, Hillary Juma completed the
turnaround by slotting home the equalizer, sending Bukhungu into celebration
and underlining Homeboyz’ reputation as one of the toughest home sides in the
league.
Despite late attempts by Police to reclaim the lead, the
hosts held firm to secure a point.
The draw leaves Kenya Police FC fourth on 22 points from 13
matches, two adrift of leaders Gor Mahia, while Homeboyz climbed two places to
sixth and continue to build momentum on home soil.
Elsewhere in the league, Murang’a Seal extended their
impressive unbeaten run to nine matches with a commanding 3–1 away victory over
Mara Sugar at Awendo Green Stadium.
Ulinzi Stars also enjoyed a productive outing, dispatching
Posta Rangers 3–0 to register their first home win of the season.
At Kasarani Annex, Sofapaka and Kariobangi Sharks played out
a goalless draw in a tightly contested affair.
The results keep the title race finely balanced as teams head into the next round of 16 fixtures with little margin for error.
