Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) men’s volleyball team has declared its readiness ahead of the 46th edition of the Africa Club Championship, which kicks off on Thursday, April 17, 2025, in Misrata, Libya.

The 14-day tournament, organized by the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB), will feature 32 of the continent’s top clubs, all vying for the coveted title.

KPA will represent Kenya alongside local powerhouses General Service Unit (GSU) and Kenya Prisons, forming a strong Kenyan contingent in the prestigious event.

Head coach James Ontere, a former national team player, expressed confidence in the team’s preparations, noting their determination to go beyond the semi-final stage—a hurdle they’ve yet to clear in their previous three appearances.

“The tournament will be tough because every team participating is a champion in their own country—but so are we,” said Ontere.

“That makes the competition intense, but based on the training and preparations we’ve had, I believe we’re ready to post good results.”

This marks KPA’s fifth appearance at the continental event, having earned qualification after finishing third in the 2023/24 Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Men’s National League Playoffs.

Team captain Dennis Omollo echoed the coach’s optimism, highlighting the team’s improved cohesion and hunger for success.

“We’re going to show significant improvement compared to previous years,” said Omollo.

“Team spirit is high, and we’re confident we’ll achieve better results than we did last season.”

Coach Ontere also praised KPA management for its continued support, which allowed the team to engage in intensive training over the past two weeks, preparations he believes have sharpened the squad’s competitive edge and morale.

With high hopes and renewed determination, KPA enters the Africa Club Championship looking to make a lasting impression on the continental stage.
