Koyonzo, Vihiga shine in Western Prescott 15s Cup
The tournament which is set to run for two days and played on a round-robin format saw defending champions Koyonzo High School and East Africa 7s winners Vihiga High School emerging as the standout teams.
In the opening match, former giants Kakamega High School got off to a strong start by defeating Chavakali School 17-05.
Kakamega’s solid defense and quick counterattacks were too much for Chavakali to handle, securing the hosts their first win of the tournament.
The second game of the day saw Koyonzo make a bold statement in their first match of the day, crushing Senende 22-0.
Their dominating performance left no room for Senende to score, as Koyonzo’s attack consistently broke through the opposition's defense.
The third match had Vihiga delivering a masterclass, overwhelming Chavakali with a convincing 31-0 win. Chavakali struggled to keep up as Vihiga showed their prowess with powerful running and clinical finishing.
Koyonzo continued their winning form in the fourth match, defeating Kakamega 10-3 to keep their title defense chances high.
The fifth and the last match of the day was a tie pitting Senende Friends School against Vihiga High School.
Vihiga wrapped up a dominant day with a 19-3 victory over Senende. Brian Korir's lone three-pointer in the opening minutes of the first half was all Senende could manage, while Vihiga’s attacking power proved too much.
David Lukalia and Frederick Omondi scored one and two tries, respectively while Felix Apwoka booted in two conversions to help the Abdalla-led Vihiga secure a win over Senende.
Koyonzo and Vihiga have set the pace, both remaining undefeated as they head into the next round of matches tomorrow at the same venue.
