Korir upbeat of world-class treat in Chepsaita Cross Country
The organizers of the annual Chepsaita Cross Country
have announced the closure of registration for senior men and women and junior
men and women’s categories.
Speaking on the Hot 96 breakfast show this morning, Athletics
Kenya Youth Development Chairman Barnabas Korir said they have managed to
register 600 athletes in each category as required by the world athletes, but
for the kids and senior citizen categories, the registration is going on.
“The senior and junior categories are full. We
have achieved the numbers required by World Athletics, and the process has been
smooth.
“We have heard athletes turning up
in large numbers, and we still have registration going on for the kids and
senior citizens,” said Korir.
Korir, who doubles up as the Athletics Kenya Nairobi branch
chairman, praised the second edition's organizers, terming its growth as
momentous despite the inaugural edition being held last year.
“This competition has really grown
big, and it has been elevated to gold level because of the success in the first
edition. We are looking forward to success this year and many more to come,” added
Korir
The competition, slated for December 7, will feature former
world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge and Olympic Champion Faith Kipyegon.
“They are excited to come and
support the initiative because they love to see education supporting the athletes'
careers, and he is encouraging the athletes to go to school. That is why
running for education is the theme,” stated the chairman.
