Athletics Kenya Nairobi branch Chairman Barnabas Korir says they have been assured maximum support by the government ahead of this year’s Kip Keino Classic, set for May 31 at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Korir who also doubles up as the Head of Youth Development at AK went has revealed that the government has committed to laying a new tartan track at the stadium, before the Kip Keino Classic.

Korir feels although they are racing against time to get ready in all frontiers, the Sixth Edition will be a big success especially with the goodwill shown by the government so far.

“The government has come in strongly to support the edition and they have promised to do their best to make sure that the fans are happy and athletes enjoy the race on that day,” said Korir.

“The tartan track is going to be removed and replaced with a new on before the race we are glad for the support that we are receiving and we are confident of organizing a great and world class event,”  added Korir.

As it has been the case since its first edition in 2020, this year’s edition is expected to attract global stars, as hinted by Korir.

“We started very well, and we can’t afford to lower standards. We have to keep improving, because we are moving towards something major. We definitely want to host a World Championship here in the near future, so we have to keep on improving,” explained Korir.
