KNBL: Nson tips Umoja to build up pace after the break
Umoja
Basketball Team assistant coach, Abel Nson, believes they still have a lot to
do in the new season of the Kenya National Men’s Basketball Premier League (KNBL).
The
league, which is still on a festive season break, has seen Umoja collect five
points after winning two matches and losing one before the break.
They
defeated newcomers Stanbic and Africa Nazarene University’s Wolfpacks and lost
to giants Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in their last match.
“We
are not yet there, we still have a lot of gaps and weaknesses, things that we
need to adjust,” noted Nson.
“It
was a humbling situation at the same time very good for us because as we keep
building our blocks we needed to know exactly who we are and it was a
wakeup call to us especially in our last game against KPA. We really struggled
defensively and hope in the next few weeks we will make the right
adjustments and fix that situation to become a better team defensively and
offensively,” he added.
At
the same time, Nson believes new players brought on the board will be a big
boost to the team moving forward.
“It’s
still early. We have only played three matches this season and we had the addition
of two; Cliff Alela and Job Byron for that last game against KPA. As the
season progresses we are getting more and more guys involved so nothing alarming
but we shall get where we want to be in time,” Nsona said.
Umoja roped in two new players including Cliff Alela from Strathmore Blades and Job Byron from KPA to strengthen their squad.
