KNBL: ANU coach Oluoch picks lessons from weekend match ups

Africa Nazarene University (ANU) basketball team head coach Michael Oluoch has pointed out tactics they used to win away in Eldoret in their Kenya National Basketball Premier League last weekend.

ANU Wolfpacks defeated home team Eldonet Platinum 71-64 in the men’s premier league, while ANU Panthers lost 61-69 to Eldonets in the women’s Premier League.

“The men's team played well after learning from the ladies' team's mistakes, so we pushed from the start to the end and never allowed them to breathe or make any recovery time on us. We were rotating well on defence and collecting rebounds well,” Oluoch said.

Despite the victory, Oluoch says they picked lessons they will work on.

“As much as we won, we had a lot of fouls that we needed to work on; our free throws were also not sinking in well, something we need to work on, too.

“It was a good lesson for us, and we will work hard to see what happens this coming weekend,” Oluoch added.

At the same time, the soft-spoken tactician identified contributing factors for their setback.

“The ladies team started the game well. In the first half, we did everything right in attacking and executing, and our defense was also good.

“In the third quarter, we started going badly. We were not scoring free throws, missing layups, and we had a lot of fouls while our opponents were converting their free throws.

“We tried to come back in the last quarter, but we fell short and lost the game,” Oluoch added.

The ANU Panthers have not won a single match since the start of the season.
