Kimanzi named Harambee Stars interim coach ahead of Mapinduzi Cup

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has appointed former Harambee Stars head coach Francis Kimanzi to lead the national team in a temporary capacity ahead of the upcoming Mapinduzi Cup, scheduled to take place January from 3 to 13 in Zanzibar.

The former Mathare United and Tusker FC head coach has been out of the touchline since October when he parted ways with Tanzanian Premier League side Tabora United.

Kimanzi, who is returning for a fourth stint with Stars, will be assisted by John Kamau and Zedekiah Otieno serving during the Mapinduzi Cup.

Former Kenyan international goalkeeper Arnold Origi has been appointed goalkeeper coach while Mikael Igediah will oversee fitness technology. Wycliff Makanga and Noel Mandi will serve as the team doctor and physiotherapist, respectively.

FKF revealed that the recruitment process for the official national team coaching staff continues.

The national team is expected to hit camp on December 28.

Two leading FKF Premier League scorers Ryan Ogam of Tusker FC and Francis Kahiro from KCB FC lead the provisional roster for the championship.

Ogam has taken the league by storm sitting at the summit of the scorer's sheet with 13 goals from 14 rounds.

Ogam joined Tusker from the defunct National Super League side Rainbow during the off-season transfer window.

FKF deputy president McDonald Mariga says the Mapinduzi Cup is key in preparing the team for CHAN.

“The Mapinduzi Cup offers our local boys a perfect opportunity to prepare for the upcoming CHAN tournament, and this is why we have honored the invite. We will give the team all the required support to ensure they are settled and ready to concentrate on their job, which is to play football and carry the Kenyan flag high.”
