Kibera stun Nairobi United, Vihiga hands Msa United a walkover
National Super League (NSL) side Kibera Black
Stars stunned table-toppers Nairobi United 3-1 in a thrilling match staged at
the Dandora Stadium on Sunday.
Nairobi United struck first through Duncan Odhiambo, giving
them an early advantage before Kibera settled in the match.
Bruce Achesa then levelled the score before Ange Donald added
two more goals, sealing a memorable win for the visitors.
Speaking after the match, Kibera Black Stars assistant coach
Edwin Lavatsa praised his team saying it was a statement performance.
“I’m happy with the boys today. It’s not an easy task to beat league leaders, as they have been enjoying top form. This win is significant as we go onto the next, because it gives the players the morale they need to believe more. We prepared tactically, and the result proves it,” said the former Harambee Stars and Gor Mahia winger.
On the other hand, Edwin Mwaura, the Head Coach of
Nairobi United, acknowledged his team’s shortcomings.
“Today was a bad day in the office. We didn’t expect the
outcome, but congratulations to the opponents. We made a lot of defensive
mistakes that led them punishing us. Looking ahead, we’ll need to improve on
these mistakes for better results,” he remarked.
In Mombasa, Mombasa United were awarded three points and two goals after
Vihiga United failed to show up for their match, at the Serani Sports Grounds.
According to Mombasa United Head Coach
Hamadi Said, the team was ready to fight for the points, and was not happy to
earn points without work.
"We prepared well after the
disastrous loss to Luanda Villa last week, but now it's a walkover. Thou we
would have loved to play, we will take it positively and shift our focus to plan
for our next encounter," he averred.
Mombasa United will take on
Darajani Gogo next weekend before the festive season break.
Earlier on at the same pitch,
host Congo Boyz were held to a 2-2 draw by 10-man Zetech Titans in a Division One
league match.
Ali Fauz and Ali Halafu scored for
Congo Boyz while Abdala Mlangwa and Jimmy Juma levelled terms for Zetech.
Zetech Titans opened the scoring chat
in the third minute through Mlagwa before Fauz restored parity in the 20th,
from winger Godwin Joseph’s cross.
Just five minutes into the second
half, Ali Juma was fouled in the 18-yard box by goalkeeper George Barasa and
Congo Boyz were awarded a penalty. Halafu stepped up and successfully converted
from the spot, giving the hosts the lead.
In the penalty moment of push and
pull, Zetech Titans midfielder John Ouma was sent off after an altercation with
centre referee Elijah Mwanzia.
In the 65th minute, 10-man Zetech
Titans equalised through Jimmy Juma to earn a point away.
Speaking to Citizen Digital after the
match, Zetech Titans’ Head Coach Bernard Kitolo blamed the referees saying they
had a fixed mind on the outcome.
"The new FKF office should look
into officiating, you can't be preparing your team then referees have already
made a decision,” he lamented.
Kelvin Omondi - Congo Boyz Head Coach said his charges lacked concentration in the latter stages of the match, despite coming from a goal down.
"We were not in our best, the only reason we didn't come out with the maximum points is lack of concentration throughout, but I believe we can learn from this and bounce back strongly.”
