Kenya’s top esports football gamers are set for a thrilling showdown this Sunday as the fifth edition of the eLigue1Tour Kenya reaches its climax in Nairobi.

The grand finale will take place at the University of Nairobi Main Campus on March 15, 2026, bringing together 12 elite players competing for a fully sponsored trip to Paris courtesy of the Ligue 1 McDonald's league, the French top-flight league.

The eLigue1Tour is an esports football competition where players battle it out in football simulation titles EA Sports FC 26 on PlayStation 5 and FC Mobile, using teams from France’s top-flight league. Winners in both gaming categories will earn an all-expenses-paid trip to Paris to experience Ligue 1 football first-hand.

This year’s tournament attracted significant interest from across the country, with 3,287 players registering for the competition. Of these, 2,127 competed in the FC Mobile category, while 1,160 took part in the PlayStation EA Sports FC '26 competition, highlighting the growing popularity of esports in Kenya.

Qualification rounds have already produced a strong field of finalists. The EA Sports FC 26 category saw its first stage played at BBS Mall in Eastleigh on March 7, where the top eight players booked their tickets to the final showdown.

Among the PlayStation finalists is defending champion Joash Agutu, who will be aiming to retain his title. He will face stiff competition from former champion Luony “Fox” Teat and seasoned gamer Moses Ndarwa, alongside Leone Mwaura, Aiyabei Kibet, Brian Mutua, Omar Harun Ahmed, and fast-rising high school star Gerald Jeremiah.

In the FC Mobile category, four players have made it to the decisive stage following an online qualification process. The finalists are Lawrence Amollo, Gideon Muriithi, Prince Baraka, and Jeffry Odhiambo.

The grand finale is scheduled to kick off at 11:00 AM, with esports fans expected to witness high-level virtual football action as competitors battle for national bragging rights and a dream trip to Paris.

The event continues to position Kenya as a growing hub for competitive gaming, particularly in football simulation esports, while also strengthening ties between local gamers and the global football ecosystem.
