Kenya's charge for glory at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo gained
momentum as three middle-distance stars—Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Kelvin Kimutai
Loti, and Nicholas Kiplangat Kebenei—qualified for the men’s 800 metres
semi-finals.
Wanyonyi,
one of the gold medal hopefuls, impressed with a commanding run in his heat,
showcasing his trademark pace and composure. Kelvin Kimutai Loti also powered
through his race, maintaining a strong position from start to finish to secure
his spot in the semis.
Nicholas
Kiplangat Kebenei earned his qualification with a time of 1:44.91, squeezing
into the next round as one of the fastest finishers outside the automatic
spots.
The
performance underlines Kenya’s continued dominance in the 800m event, a race
that has historically delivered global medals for the country.
With
the semi-finals set to be fiercely competitive, all eyes will be on the Kenyan
trio to push for final qualification.
So
far, Kenya has already bagged medals in other events, including gold from Peres
Jepchirchir in the women's marathon and bronze from Edmund Serem in the men’s
3000m steeplechase. The 800m squad now looks to add to that tally as they hunt
for podium places.
As
anticipation builds, the trio’s strong entry into the semis ignites hope for
another medal haul. The semi-finals promise to be electric, and Kenya’s flag
will be flying high with Wanyonyi, Loti, and Kebenei leading the charge.
