Kenyans dominate Korean Ambassadors Taekwondo Cup in Kampala

Faith Adhiambo won gold and Most Valuable Player Award in the Kyorugi senior women’s U46kg category, while her compatriot Ashley Munyasia took silver in the two-day event organized by the Uganda Taekwondo Federation in collaboration with the Korean Embassy.

In the U457kg, Kenyan Dock Stacy easily defeated her Ugandan opponent in the Kyorugi senior women’s, while Rebeccah Maria was good for bronze in the Kyorugi senior women’s Over 73kg category, defeating Beroparwoth Kelly Of Uganda Police.

Hazeny Lumwach was the sole medalist for Kenya in the Kyorugi junior women’s U52kg where she lifted gold.

IOC member and the Uganda Olympic Committee president William Blick, promised to work hand in hand with the Uganda taekwondo federation to ensure that the country acquires an electronic score system to improve athletes score system in the region.

The chief guest South Korean ambassador also promised to improve the greatness of the Taekwondo Sports in the region.

“I will work with other teams in our country in order to bring in more masters to develop competitive taekwondo practitioners in the region,” he added

Six Kenyan clubs, Regional Taekwondo Club, Ragumo, Kisumu Taekwondo, ICY Kenya, Madera Taekwondo and the Swift Kicks Taekwondo Club took part while Uganda had representatives from 19 clubs.

The championship attracted 250 athletes, including 131 senior males, 33 senior women, 65 boys and 21 girls, in the two main categories Poomsae and Kyorugi.
