Former champions KCB, Kenya Prisons and Kenya Pipeline are out to secure the Women's African Clubs Championship quarterfinal slots when they take to the court in round of 16 matches this evening, beginning 4pm, at the Moshood Abiola Stadium Indoor Arena in Abuja, Nigeria.
First on the
court will be Kenya Prisons who will face off with Rwandese Police Volleyball
Club at 4pm. The clash will see Police attacker Meldina Sande face her former
club, who last won the gong in 2013.
Pipeline, who
topped Pool 'D' unbeaten, will be next on the court at 6pm, against Botswana’s
Spiking Stars, while 2022 champions KCB take on Nigeria Customs Service from
8pm.
Should KCB
advance to the quarters, they will likely face defending champions Zamalek who
have been lined up against Cote d’Ivoire’s Club Omnisports Descartes from 8pm.
The Kenyan teams
will be eyeing a better finish this year after the Egyptian teams Zamalek and
Al-Ahly stopped a dream all-Kenyan affair final between KCB and Kenya Pipeline
in last year's showpiece.
The Egyptian
giants have always been a thorn in the flesh for the Kenyan sides, having stood
in their way to the final on most occasions.
KCB and Pipeline
have Zamalek in their way to the final while Kenya Prisons have a possibility
of facing last year's silver medallists Al-Ahly in the quarterfinal.
The two-week
volleyball extravaganza, which has entered its eighth day, is expected to
conclude on April 14.
