Kenyan trio storms into 3000m steeplechase final
The Kenyan
trio of world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech, Commonwealth Games champion
Jackline Chepkoech and world junior champion Faith Cherotich have booked their
slots in the women's 3000m steeplechase at the World Championships.
Chepkoech,
the 2019 world champion went first on heat one where she placed second in
9:19.22 behind Bahrain's Winfred Yavi who claimed victory in 9:19.18.
Making her
debut at the senior category, Cherotich destroyed a strong field that included
reigning Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai of Uganda.
The
19-year-old clocked 9:19.55 with Sembo Almaywe of Ethiopia placing second in
9:19.60 as Chemutai settled for third in 9:20.03
In the third
heat, Chepkoech reigned supreme after timing 9:16.41
The trio
will return to the track on Saturday- the penultimate day of the championship
for the final.
