Kenyan rugby transfer window sees mad rush in last-minute deals

The Kenyan rugby transfer window closed this past weekend with the final day experiencing a beehive of activities for various clubs and players.

Since the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) declared the transfer window open on June 10, 2024 by, less activity was witnessed as the majority of players were off to national duties.

The national sevens team, Shujaa, was hard at training for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games, while second string side, Morans, were in training in readiness for the Africa 7s Cup.

The National 15s side was in camp for the Rugby Africa Cup as the national Under-20 team was on assignment in Scotland.

However, in the closing moments, a few deals were confirmed, with Nakuru RFC forward, Amos Nyamaya Obae, joining local rivals Menengai Oilers

Menengai Oilers however lost their fullback, Davis Nyaundi and forward Tyson Maina to 2021 Kenya Cup champions, KCB.

Mwamba Rugby Club and Kenya Sevens Scrumhalf, Ronnie Omondi decamped to Kenya Cup record winners Nondescripts.

It was however a quiet window for Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup defending champions, Kabras Sugar, who did not make major moves in the transfer market, choosing to trust their development side to compliment the main team that was absolutely on top of its game the whole season.

Majority of the Kenya Cup teams are already in training with their sevens teams, as they prepare for the commencement of the National Sevens Circuit on the weekend of July 27-28, 2024.

The National Sevens Circuit kicks off in the capital, Nairobi, with Kenya Harlequins hosting the opening Christie 7s leg at the RFUEA grounds along Ngong road.
