Kenya ready to host 10th edition of Tong IL Moo Do
All is set
and Kenya is ready to host the 10th edition of the Tong-Il Moodo, the national
federation president Master Clarence Mwakio has said.
Mwakio says
over 40 countries have confirmed their participation at the event that will
take place at the Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa.
He added he hopes
Kenya will emerge winners and singled out competition from Philippines and DRC
Congo.
“We lobbied
for an international tournament that we wanted to either in Nairobi or Mombasa
but because of the huge following in Mombasa and the city being a major tourist
attraction and we thought we could use the event to market Kenya as a major
tourist attraction,” Mwakio said.
The
federation chief added that they have held consultative conversations with the Sports
Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba who pledged his support.
“We had a
very fruitful meeting with the sports cabinet secretary where we introduced the
game to him and he was very happy with the progress and promised support for
the growth of the sport in the country,” Mwakio added.
Mwakio also
insisted they have plans to introduce the game to schools and universities and
also promised to take the competition to the rest of the country.
“We will
introduce it to the primary and secondary schools then eventually to the
universitys , currently we are investing in training enough instructors because we want to train
different sets of groups so all these sets need professionally trained
instructors,” the federation president told Citizen Digital.
The
competition will begin on December 10th to 18th in Mombasa.
