Kenya Pipeline set to dominate as KVF women’s league resumes
Kenya Pipeline has stepped up its training ahead of the resumption of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Women’s League, which returns for the third leg on Saturday at the Nyayo National Stadium Gymnasium.
The former champions are determined to maintain their unbeaten streak, with head coach Geoffrey Omondi charged for the upcoming weekend's action.
Pipeline has won all five of their opening fixtures, including victories over rivals Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Kenya Prisons.
“We’ve intensified our training because we know our opponents will also be in good form. So far, so good, and we’re fully prepared for the resumption of the league,” Omondi commented.
Despite their strong start, Omondi has urged his players to remain focused, especially after losing the Kipchumba Karori Tournament to KCB in December. He emphasized the need for improvement in their attacking play and backcourt defence.
“We didn’t defend well in the backcourt during the last tournament, and that’s an area we need to continue working on. We’re also not at the level we want to be in terms of attacking, but we’ll keep refining that,” said Omondi.
The Oilers will also be missing the powerful strikes of Pamela Adhiambo, who left for Finland’s LP Viesti. Loice Simiyu has stepped into her role and performed admirably, though the absence of Adhiambo’s potent attack will surely be felt by Pipeline fans.
New acquisition Mariam Musa, who won the Best Outside Hitter award last season ahead of Adhiambo, has seamlessly integrated into Omondi’s system, adding further strength to the team’s offensive line-up.
Omondi will be looking to guide the Oilers to reclaim the league title they lost in 2023 and secure his first-ever title with the club, a task he acknowledges will not be easy.
Pipeline’s third-leg campaign kicks off with a match against Kenya Army on Saturday.
