In a bid to strengthen the development of sports talent
among young athletes, the Kenya Academy of Sports has concluded a one-week
intensive training program for trainers at Moi Complex.
The program brought together trainers from 11 counties in
the Central and Upper Eastern regions, equipping them with the necessary skills
to nurture budding talents at the grassroots level.
James Theuri, the Head of Development at the Kenya Academy
of Sports, emphasized the importance of early talent development.
“This training will help students at a young age to grow
both technically and mentally in their respective sports. It’s a critical step
towards building a solid foundation for future success,” he said.
The trainers expressed optimism about the program, noting
that the knowledge gained will be instrumental in helping talented students
reach their full potential.
“This training has given us new insights into talent
development. We are now better prepared to identify and guide students with
potential, helping them become top-level athletes,” one of the trainers stated.
Theuri also highlighted the long-term goal of the
initiative, noting that improved grassroots coaching will directly benefit the
junior and youth national teams. “With better-prepared trainers at the school level,
we can expect stronger performances from our national teams at international
and global competitions,” he added.
This marks another step forward in Kenya’s commitment to
nurturing sports talent and building future champions through structured
training and development programs.
