The Kenya Police and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Boxing Clubs
tied on points after a fiercely contested second leg of the National Boxing
League held in Mombasa.
The event, hosted at the iconic Changamwe Social Hall, saw some
of the country's top pugilists go head-to-head in a series of electrifying
bouts among the 17 clubs with 90 men and 11 women boxers.
Police and KDF are tied on 26 points, with both teams coming
into the competition expecting to shine after police missed the first leg in
Kisumu that was dominated by KDF.
The highlight of the event was the clash between seasoned boxers
from both clubs, where the experience and strategy played crucial roles with
fans treated to a master class of boxing.
Boniface Mogunde of Police went home with a 3-0 score against
Micheal Oduor of Nairobi in the light middleweight bout, while Edwin Okong’o of
KDF lost 2-1 to George Cosby of Police in the middleweight category.
Chris Ochanda also lost with the same score in the light heavyweight
fight against Humphrey Ochieng.
In other bouts Veronica Mbithe of KDF emerged victorious,
registering a 3-0 against Faith Nafuna of Nairobi (49-50kgs) as Samuel Onyango
of Police won 3-0 against Emmanuel Chondo of Nairobi in the minimum weight
category.
The Police – KDF tie underscores the intense rivalry between the
two sides, both of which have a rich history in the sport.
Nairobi Boxing Club are third on seven points, level with
Prisons Boxing Club.
