KDF out to lock up Kenya Prisons as Kenya Cup serves off

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) head coach Elisha Aliwa believes the recently introduced Kenya Cup competition will provide more playing time for teams, besides the regular Kenya Volleyball League.

The soldiers will take on fierce rivals and reigning national league champions Kenya Prisons and Kenya Airport Police Unit (KAPU) in the first edition of Kenya Cup this weekend at Kasarani.

Aliwa has sounded a warning to his rivals, showing his intent to win the inaugural tournament.

“We will learn slowly and adjust to the way the opponent plays. It is a new tournament that has given room to teams signing foreign players and that may come with surprises,” Aliwa told Citizen Digital.

“My boys have trained well and we are ready for the tournament. We have two tough matches to play, KAPU is as good as Kenya Prisons because they forced them to five sets in the league so we have to be on top of our game for the two matches,” Aliwa added.

The tactician who also doubles up as Wafalme Stars assistant coach is however sweating over an injury crisis in the defence court.

“We have an important player, middle blocker, on the sidelines. We have also not been excellent in the backcourt defence and I urge my players in the department to display their A game.”

KDF opens the Kenya Cup campaign against KAPU tomorrow before taking on Prisons on Sunday in a highly anticipated match.

Saturday will also witness a high-profile match pitting General Service Unit (GSU) and Kipchumba Karori Volleyball Tournament title holders Equity.

Four matches are lined up on Sunday with Equity clashing with AP Kenya in the opening fixture before Kenya Army takes on GSU. Trail Blazers will on the other hand lock horns with KAPU before Kenya Prisons take to the court against KDF.
