KDF crowned Inter-disciplinary Forces Taekwondo champions

Kenya Defence
Forces (KDF) emerged the overall winners of the 2023 Interdisciplinary Forces
Taekwondo Championships held Wednesday at the Moi Airbase Gymnasium in Nairobi.
The soldiers topped the men’s and women’s categories bagging 23 medals (15 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze) to emerge champions ahead of the General Service Unit (GSU) and National Youth Service (NYS) teams.
The gold medals were awarded to both men and women teams in eight weight categories; the sole heavy weight category gold was snatched from KDF by Amstone Mwanjije of the NYS.
KDF team manager Waithaka Kamau attributed their triumph to the massive support they have received from the management.
“I am so happy we have won the final 2023 tournament. We keep winning both in the tournaments and national leagues because we have ample training time and we also have all the required equipment and great support from our leaders.”
On his part, NYS coach Stephen Nyongesa admitted the KDF team was much better than his side but vowed to turn the tables in the next championship.
“We have had a challenge especially on the ladies side. We just realized that our opponents are at the Blackbelt level hence the great fight and we need to work on our tactics if we are to topple them.”
KDF’s base commander Brigadier Samuel Kipkorir heaped praises on his team adding that since the kicking and punching game was introduced in Kenya, it has developed very quickly enabling discipline and forcing athletes to feature in national, continental and international championships with excellent results.
The soldiers now shift focus to the national league and the 2024 African Military Games to be held in Nigeria in November.
