KDF buoyed by Beach Games triumph

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) taekwondo team has vowed to maintain their winning tempo ahead of other tournaments after clinching the Beach Tae Kwondo championship last weekend.

The military side and Integrity Centre for Youth (ICY) from Kisumu emerged winners in men and women categories respectively for the second edition of the beach games held at the Buntwani waterfront in Malindi.

KDF 'A' topped  the male categories with six gold medals, followed by Kilifi 'A' who emerged  second position with six silver medals while  KDF 'B' finished in third position with six Bronze medals in the competition held at the Malindi beach.

In the female categories, Integrity Centre for Youth (ICY) from Kisumu were in the top position with six gold medals followed by Legend Team from Malindi with six silver medals and KDF in third position with 6 Bronze Medals consecutively.

The teams took part in the Poomsae, Brick breaking, mixed gender 2x2 team and Kyourigi competitions in both men and women.

Other teams that took part include Kilifi A and B, Prisons, legend team and Kenyatta University teams.

The KDF team bounced back after losing to police in last year’s Easter competitions to arch rivals police.

Last year KDF well known Ulinzi Taekwondo came second behind police in the Easter Taekwondo Championship held in Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa.

After the completion of the competition, Kenya Taekwondo Federation alongside the KDF taekwondo team to combat environment sustainability at the Malindi Prison where they planted 300 trees as a way of conserving the environment.          

The competition was organized by the National Olympic Committee of Kenya NOC-K during Easter holidays that ended on Sunday.
