KCB volleyball team completes safeguarding training workshop
This initiative aimed to empower the athletes by equipping them with vital skills and knowledge to ensure their safety and well-being both on and off the court.
The workshop reflects KCB’s commitment to not only fostering athletic excellence but also promoting the holistic development and protection of its players.
Speaking at the event, Kenya Volleyball Federation President Charles Nyaberi said:
“As KVF, we are grateful to all the stakeholders for kicking off this very impact-led program whose time has come. We are all very aware that we have had sad cases, so the safeguarding program will benefit us across the board."
"We should not wait until another Rebecca Jeptegei is wasted. We should have concerted efforts between stakeholders so that our players, our greatest assets are taken care of. We intend to replicate the same initiatives across the country,” added Nyaberi.
The players received virtual insights on areas such as mental health and wellness, financial literacy, legal awareness and protection, and self defence training in a bid to empower the athletes amidst the recent concerns about gender-based violence in the country.
“I would like to thank KCB for organizing this event when we are about to start our season. It is a good thing because players are taught about situations they come across on and off the pitch that are against their wishes or will.
"We are about to begin our season at the end of this season, we are very prepared as a team despite losing some key players. We are positive that we will perform well,” said KCB Captain, Edith Wisa.
Charles Nyaberi, the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) president announced that the new season will serve off on October 30, 2024 in Nyeri County as teams intensify their preparations.
