Former champions KCB easily dismissed Young Spikers in straight sets as the second leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation National Women’s League served off at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on Wednesday.
The bankers controlled the tempo from the first whistle, showcasing sharp attacks, solid blocks, and disciplined defence to seal a 3-0 sets victory of 25-10, 25-12 and 25-13.
The former champions shift their focus to a blockbuster clash against league leaders DCI on Sunday, March 1.
The two sides have already developed a fierce rivalry this season, having met twice in different competitions with DCI prevailing 3-2 sets in the Kenya Cup last December.
The sleuths continued with their dominant start to the new season after spanking newcomers A-Plus Volleyball Club in straight sets of 25–15, 25–17 and 25–17.
The win extended their lead on top of the log to 12 points after sweeping four wins in as many matches.
Before their potentially explosive clash against KCB on Sunday, DCI will first seek to disarm the winless Kenya Army on Thursday.
KCB head coach Japheth Munala praised his charges for sticking to the game plan, even as he brimmed with confidence that they will reclaim the women’s gong they lost to Kenya Pipeline last season.
“The senior players were on the bench. We’re happy with the performance so far. Our girls are playing with heart and our strategy is paying off. There are good and noticeable players in Young Spikers, so it’s a team to watch out for in the future,” said the seasoned coach.
His opposite number, John Kimani, acknowledged the milestone his team has achieved, while also highlighting the challenges they face.
“We are the first Nyandarua team to get to this stage, and we are happy to play against a team like KCB. But we also don’t have any sponsors, so we would like to call on the government of Nyandarua to sponsor us. Lack of funds and enough middle blockers is our problem.”
At the same venue, the clash between Post Bank and Kenya Prisons delivered thrilling action, but it was the wardresses who emerged victorious with a commanding 3–0 win.
From the opening serve, the former champions showcased dominance, securing the first set 25–20.
They continued their momentum in the second set, overpowering the bankers 25–16. The third set sealed the victory as KPR closed out 25–19, completing a clean sweep.
