KCB smash straight sets past KDF in volleyball league
The bankers strolled past the soldiers in sets of 25-19, 25-6, and 25-12 to make it two wins in as many matches at the KVF third leg at the Nyayo Indoor Arena.
In a post-match interview, KCB captain and middle blocker Edith Wisa praised her side’s performance but against underrating any opponents in their pursuit for a third successive league title.
“It’s a good result for us as a team. We came prepared for a tough game and worked hard to secure this win. Our new signings from school are adjusting well, and starting with a win gives them confidence. However, we know the league is far from over. Until we win the title, we’ll keep pushing and believing in ourselves,” she said.
Her opposite number Veronica Jelagat acknowledged the KDF’s below par outing but remained hopeful they will finish in the top eight to qualify for the end of season playoffs.
“Today’s game was not good, but it's just small mistakes that we will correct. We had hopes of winning, but the same mistakes we made yesterday we repeated again.
"I know KCB is better than us, but we are still struggling with serving the ball. It is our responsibility to support the coach by putting in more effort. Even though we lost, I can say that today we improved compared to yesterday.”
KCB had a flying start of the third leg whitewashing Nairobi Prisons in straight sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-14) while KDF lost 3-1 sets to Postbank in a closely contested match.
