KCB RFC secured a place in the Enterprise Cup semifinals after a dominant 86-07 victory over Catholic Monks at the KCB Sports Club, setting up a date with Kabras RFC.
Scrum-half Michael Wanjala opened the scoring for KCB in the fourth minute, followed by captain Jacob Ojee, who added a second try. Austin Sikutwa converted Ojee’s try, giving KCB a 12-00 lead. Catholic Monks responded through Philip Walukana, who broke through KCB’s defence to score their only try, with Victor Rheins converting to make it 12-07.
KCB extended their lead with further tries from Fidel Maina, Andy Cole Omollo, and two more from Ojee. Andy Cole added his second try just before halftime, giving KCB a commanding 34-07 lead at the break. Sikutwa handled the conversions in the first half.
The second half saw KCB continue to dominate. Felix Ojow scored his first try, followed by Isaac Njoroge and Tyson Maina, who contributed to the growing tally. Maina completed a hat trick while Ojee added two more tries to seal his poker of the game. Manasseh Oduor also crossed the line for KCB to seal the much-needed and deserved victory. Levy Amunga took over the conversion duties in the second half.
After the match, KCB RFC Head Coach Oliver Mang'eni praised his team’s performance: "The play was good today, and from what we have been working on, the players executed approximately 70% of our expectations, which is a positive sign."
Looking ahead to the playoffs, Mang'eni added, "March is going to be a tough month, with the Kenya Cup playoffs and matches against the top three teams. We need to be prepared for the challenges ahead."
In the other quarterfinal, Kabras RFC defeated Kenya Harlequins 43-20 to secure their spot in the semifinals. The winner of the KCB vs Kabras clash will face the victor of the Nondies vs Menengai Oilers semifinal, with both teams having secured walkovers in the quarters.
KCB will return to Kenya Cup action next weekend, facing the Nondies at Ngong Racecourse. Mang’eni commented, "The Nondies are a well-coached side, and we expect a tough game. However, we must be ready and aim for maximum points."
The Enterprise Cup semifinals will take place on March 8, 2025.
