KCB drew first blood by taking the opening set 25-19 before cruising through the next two sets with identical 25-19 and 25-21 scores.
Head coach Japheth Munala rang changes in the third set, fielding fringe players after his side had set the pace in the opening two sets.
The former Malkia Strikers head coach expressed relief after the win, coming just two days after the narrow loss to Kenya Prisons.
“This win puts us in a better position, especially after our loss to Prisons. We had to win today to redeem ourselves, and I’m happy we took the maximum points,” said Munala.
Munala also praised the return of setter Esther Mutinda, who played a key role in orchestrating the bankers’ victory.
“Mutinda is very important to us, and she, together with the other setters, played a good match. I’m happy with the overall team performance. Our focus now shifts to the Kipchumba Karori tournament,” he added.
KCB were without their captain Edith Wisa, who is away on maternity leave, but her absence was barely felt as Pauline Chemutai stepped in and executed her role effectively.
In another thrilling encounter, Kenya Prisons made light work of Kenya Defence Forces, defeating them in straight sets.
Prisons, who were coming off a 3-2 loss to defending champions Kenya Pipeline on Saturday, dominated the opening set 25-17.
However, they were pushed hard in the second set and had to dig deep to edge it 26-24 before sealing the match with a commanding 25-14 win in the third set.
Kenya Prisons head coach Joseph Barasa praised his players after the victory.
“We’ve had a tough weekend, but I’m happy we managed to get maximum points after dropping one against KCB on Friday and two against Pipeline on Saturday,” Barasa told Citizen Digital.
Barasa cited experience as a key factor in overcoming the soldiers, particularly during the closely contested second set.
“I opted to give young players a chance after taking the lead in the second set, but I had to turn to experienced players when I saw we were close to losing it. Bringing in Erma Jebyeko and Bracksidies Agala helped turn the game around,” he said.
Elsewhere, DCI stunned Young Spykers with a 3-0 victory, while Post Bank similarly tormented Kenya Army.
