KCB new coach Odhiambo ready for new challenge at the den
New KCB Head Coach Patrick Odhiambo believes the
team will be good to go for the new season, with only a few additions to the
squad he inherited from immediate former coach Bernard Mwalala.
Odhiambo, a former Gor Mahia assistant coach, has
already signed three new players since joining the side last month, and will
close the transfer business after one more signing.
Odhiambo, has been strategic in the lean changes
made in the squad, aiming to strengthen the areas he deemed to be weakest.
“We have made minimal changes to the team. I
believe the players already in the squad were good enough to keep. We haveve
added three new players: one offensive player, an attacking midfielder, and a
goalkeeper. One more signing, an offensive player and we will be done,” he
said.
Despite arriving just last month, Odhiambo feels they
will be ready by the time the season kicks off on August 24.
“I may not have been here for long but since I
arrived, we have had ample time to prepare during the current preseason. Teams
are preparing well and you can predict a very competitive campaign next season,
so we have to give our best to reach where we want to go,” added Odhiambo.
Odhiambo, who joined from Kakamega Homeboyz FC,
replaced Bernard Mwalala and will be in charge at the Lion’s Den until July
16, 2025.
The bankers parted ways with Mwalala after he decided
to take a break to pursue his CAF A coaching license, a requirement by Football
Kenya Federation for all Premier League head coaches.
Odhiambo brings a wealth of experience to KCB FC,
holding CAF A license. His coaching career spans various clubs, including
Prisons FC, Western Stima, Muhoroni Youth, Sony Sugar, Chemilil Sugar, and
Tanzanian Premier League side Biashara United.
During his tenure at Kakamega Homeboyz, Odhiambo
led the team to its first silverware in the 2022/23 season by winning the FKF
Cup.
