League leaders KCB FC will aim to capitalize on recent slip-ups by their closest rivals when they face an in-form Sofapaka FC in an FKF Premier League clash at St. Sebastian Park, Murang’a, on Thursday afternoon.

KCB, currently at the summit with 23 points, hold a narrow two-point advantage at the top. A win against Batoto ba Mungu would widen the gap to five points, a much-needed boost after Bandari FC, Tusker FC, and Gor Mahia—all in the chasing pack—dropped points in their midweek fixtures.

Bandari managed only a 1-1 draw against Ulinzi Stars, Tusker suffered a humbling 4-1 defeat to AFC Leopards, while Gor Mahia conceded a last-minute equalizer in a 1-1 stalemate with Shabana FC.

Despite their lead, KCB have stumbled in recent outings, with three consecutive draws halting their momentum. Head coach Patrick Odhiambo will be keen to reverse the trend and guide his side back to winning ways.

Standing in their path is a rejuvenated Sofapaka side under the stewardship of veteran coach Robert Matano. Sofapaka, currently ninth in the standings, have rediscovered their form and are coming off a resounding 4-1 victory over Ulinzi Stars. A win on Thursday could catapult them as high as fifth on the table, as they chase their third straight victory.

History adds another layer of intrigue to this contest. Sofapaka proved to be KCB’s bogey team last season, winning both encounters, including a commanding 3-0 triumph in the first leg and a hard-fought 2-1 victory in the return fixture.

The match kicks off Kickoff at 3 PM, with both teams eager to make a statement in a game that promises fireworks.
