KBF names final roster for FIBA 3x3 Universality Olympic qualifying tourney
The Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2 will have 8 men and 8 women teams where one team from each gender will qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The team is composed of both professional and local players with a change from the African Cup winners.
Kenya are pooled in Group B with Canada, Netherlands and Australia.
The squad is led by captain Natalie Akinyi (KPA), Victoria Reynolds (Mexico), Mercy Wanyama (Lithuania) and Madina Okot who played for Zetech and recently signed with Mississippi State University, US. Hilda Indasi has been included as an alternate or substitute player.
The team will be coached by Everlyne Kedogo assisted by Zadock Adika while Erastus Mugo is the Physiotherapist.
Team Manager is Angela Luchivya while Hilmi Ali will accompany the team as the Federation Official being the vice president of KBF.
The team had a 14-days camp in Miramas, France courtesy of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya and the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports and departed early April 30, 2024 from Marseille, France to Japan.
They also spent 10 days in France in March playing top European teams and participated in two stops of the four stop French Pro League.
Other preparations included a one-week high performance training in Hammamet, Tunisia in January organized by FIBA Africa and Serbia 3x3 Academy.
Men: Egypt, Portugal, Mongolia, Netherlands, France, Puerto Rico, Japan, Egypt, Brazil.
Women: Germany, Canada, Netherlands, Japan, Austria, Australia, Kenya, Brazil.
