Kayole Starlets eye WPL promotion after two seasons in NSL
Kayole have had a fine season so far winning seven matches, drawing two and losing their only match in the hands of Mathare United Women.
Adhiambo believes this is their moment to return to the top flight after stumbling in the play-offs in their quest for the premier league promotion.
“We did our best to get promotion last season but we didn’t manage and we are doing everything to achieve that feat. We are working on correcting our mistakes and putting in the hard work.”
She further acknowledged the stiff competition in the league and urged her players not to rest on their laurels.
“It is not easy gaining promotion. I’m urging my players to continue working hard as we eye the promotion. It is our main objective and we take a game at a time,” noted Adhiambo.
The former Harambee Starlets midfield maestro says they have a competitive squad to get the job done but they will have to work on their striking to get them over the line with ease.
“We are creating many chances but we are not converting. We have to rely on our defense to bail us out and that may fail to work in future. We have to be ruthless.”
Kayole Starlets currently top the WNSL Zone A on 23 points after 10 matches, four points ahead of Gaspo who sit second.
They will be clashing with Barcelona Ladies on Sunday as the second leg of the league resumes this weekend, a game they are keen to win to extend their lead at the top.
Simiyu Tanzania move fails
Meanwhile, former Bungoma Queens player Centrine Simiyu has opened up about her short-lived stint with Tanzania's Alliance Girls, a top-tier women’s league club.
Despite signing a promising three-year contract with the team, her dream of playing professional football in Tanzania was crushed after she failed to secure a player license.
“I was eager to showcase my talent on a bigger platform and grow as a player. Unfortunately, the licensing issues meant I never got the opportunity to play,” she said.
The setback has left her re-evaluating her career trajectory.
While the Alliance Girls experience was a missed opportunity, Simiyu is adamant about moving forward and reigniting her football journey.
Known for her agility and prowess on the field, Simiyu now seeks a club that can provide not just a platform to play but also stable employment and regular monthly pay.
Despite her deep ties to Bungoma Queens, the player has ruled out returning to her former club.
While she remains grateful for the foundation it provided in her early football career, she is focused on exploring new opportunities that align with her personal and professional goals.
