Kayole Starlets edge Bandari Queens 0-1 in Mombasa
Kayole Starlets won 1-0 against hosts
Bandari Queens in a tightly contested Women National Super League match played
at Serani Sports Grounds on Sunday.
The lone goal was scored by Esther
Ngugi in the second half, to cut short a good run for Bandari Queens in the
league.
Kayole coach Mary Odhiambo was over
the moon for the three away points, saying they are marching a step at a time
back to Premier League.
“It was not an easy game, Bandari
Queens are a strong side especially playing at home. They have good quality but
I thank God we got the win,” said Odhiambo.
"We want to get back to the
Premier League, that’s our main objective and you can't get there if you don't
win matches including the hard away ones, like this one against Bandari," Odhaimbo
added.
On her side Bandari’s Janet Amuga was
crestfallen saying they created better chances but were not clinical.
"We played well but we didn't
utilise our chances. We will have to learn from our mistakes, rectify and focus
on our next assignment," she said.
Happy Nyadzua lost a glorious chance
in eighth minute after connecting Saumu Baya's cross, her effort missing just
by inches with the keeper clearly beaten.
Bandari kept pushing and almost and
came close again in the 25th, but Baya failed to tap in after well taken corner
kick by Florida Sidhani.
Kayole winger Nuru Hadima got their
first shot on target at the half-hour mark but her 20-yard shot was
stopped by Bandari goalkeeper Belinda Akinyi.
Kayole Starlets would however smile first, getting their opener 15 minutes into second half, when Ngugi thumped a 30-yard shot to beat Akinyi.
Five minutes later, Salama Gaone skillfully
headed Nyadzua’s cross but Kayole Starlets survived as it missed narrowly.
