Kayole Starlets head coach Mary Adhiambo Busu is planning to recruit new players after her side defeated Zone B champions Soccer Assassins 3-0 to lift the 2024/2025 Women National Super League.
The Kayole-based side had booked their place in the premier league with a game to spare a week ago, after thrashing Sunderland Samba 4-0 at their Calvary Grounds home base.
Starlets wrapped up the regular season with 50 points from 15 wins, five draws, and just one loss, while Assassins dominated Zone B with 45 points from 13 wins, six draws, and two defeats.
Coach Adhiambo attributed their success to the team’s hard work and resilience.
“I’m very happy of the girls for their hard work and maintaining focus throughout the season. We had early preparations before the kickoff of the just-concluded season, and that helped us a lot. We need to maintain that going to the premier league next season,” said Adhiambo.
She revealed that she intends to strengthen the squad in a bid to conquer the top-tier league.
“All my players are intact but one has shown signs of leaving the team. What we will do is to bolster the squad by signing a few players, but that’s something we are discussing with the management and once met then we will let people know,” she added.
In the 2023/24 season, Madira Girls High School made history
as the first school team to compete in the FKF Women’s Premier League (FKF-WPL). But they
were relegated after struggling to cope with the demands of top-tier football,
including some players playing for the national teams.
Joining Kayole Starlets in promotion are Gideon Starlets, who defeated Bandari Queens 5-4 in a dramatic penalty shootout.
Meanwhile, Mombasa Olympic, Bunyore Starlets, and Wadadia Women FC have been relegated to the second-tier National Women’s Super League after a challenging season in the top flight.
