The excitement is building as the highly anticipated second meet of the Athletics Kenya (AK) Cross Country series approaches.

Set to take place in Kapsokwony on Saturday, October 26, this event promises not only thrilling races but also a substantial prize pool for top performers.

Hosted at Kapsokwony Boys Secondary School in Mt. Elgon, the event will feature U-20 races for both men and women, as well as competitive 10km senior races and a 2km loop race open to all participants.

Newcomer Asbel Kiprop Kiprono, from Elgeyo Marakwet and winner of the opener in Machakos, is expected to lead the charge in the senior men’s category.

Meanwhile, Maureen Chepkoech, who has competed in multiple races across Europe, is anticipated to make a strong impact in the women’s senior category.

Kennedy Tanui, the AK Coordinator for the new athlete digital database, announced that the system is now operational for the Cross-Country series.

He urged athletes to participate in mass registration in Kapsokwony.

“I am happy to announce that our brand-new athlete registration system- The innovative platform that simplifies the process of service delivery to our athletes is now in use with the new Cross Country series opener in Machakos and as we head to the second leg in Kapsokwony,” Tanui stated.

He added, “The athletes' registration for our new database is ongoing, and we are optimistic that by January, we will have completed the process. Athletes should note that this process is mandatory.”

Tanui further explained some key changes: “The collection of bib numbers must be done in person on Friday.

All athletes are invited for the mandatory bib collection in Kapsokwony, and it is essential that all athletes register via a link provided by AK.”

The new database and the prize pool of up to 50,000 shillings are crucial components of the federation's plan to revolutionize the athletics landscape in Kenya
