Kandie reclaims KDF Cross Country title, Chepkorir rules women’s race
Sergeant Kandie from Embakasi clocked 29:24.8 to recapture the 10KM title he lost last year to Peter Mwaniki as the former World Half Marathon Championships silver medallist got off the year in style.
Wisley Yego of Wajir Air Base finished second in 29:28.7 ahead of Wilson Too of Kahawa who rounded up the podium in 29:47.7.
2021 World Athletics U20 Championships 3000m Steeplechase bronze medallists Simion Koech from Laikipia Air Base finished sixth in 29:59.2 behind Charles Kakuri (29:54.9) and Hillary Kipkoech (29:57.6), who finished fourth and fifth respectively.
In the women’s contest, Diana Chepkorir showed her opponents a clean pair of heels to win the title in 33:14.0 as she continued with her rich vein of form.
Chepkorir from Embakasi got off the year in style after winning the 10KM race at the sixth Athletics Kenya (AK) Cross Country meet held January 4 at the Cardinal Otunga Mosocho grounds in Kisii County.
In Kisii, she clocked 33:05.4 to secure her second win of the series, with her first victory having come in Machakos.
Former champion Joyce Chepkemoi of Laikipia Air Base came home second in 33:16.4 with former London Marathon champion Joyciline Jepkosgei timing 33:27.2 to complete the podium.
