Kamworor upbeat he’ll bounce back stronger in post Covid-19 era

World Half Marathon record holder Geoffrey Kamworor has promised to bounce back stronger when the athletics season gets underway in a post Covid 19-era.

The three-time World Half Marathon champion has however regretted that the pandemic struck at a time when he was in top shape. He however says he will pick from where he left once the coronavirus dust settles.

“We were really preparing well and we were already on top of the shape and it is unfortunate that the virus came along and we had to break our camp and go back home where one needs a lot of discipline, I’m still training along to make sure I keep fit,” Kamworor said

Before the pandemic Kamworor was set for the defence of his World Half Marathon title on 29 March 2020, in the northern Polish Baltic coast city of Gdynia, which has now been pushed to September.

Despite the pandemic altering the athletics calendar and affecting athletes training schedule, the 27-year-old has urged fellow athletes to keep focus.

Kamworor says spending time in his farm has come in handy in maintaining a strict diet as the partial lockdown, in some counties, make it difficult to obtain food stuffs.

“I do spend most of my time in the farm where I keep dairy animals, chicken and plant the necessary vegetables which are important in my nutrition,” he added.

Kamworor was speaking during the third webinar meeting hosted by the National Olympic Committee- Kenya, themed, “The Home Athlete Nutrition Plan” which was aimed at giving sportspeople tips on proper nutrition as the sports world continues to grapple with prolonged inactivity, stemming from the novel coronavirus that has affected normalcy all over the world.
