Two-time
New York Marathon champion Geoffrey Kamworor is aiming to break his personal
best at the Rotterdam Marathon on April 13.
The
32-year-old Kenyan, who clocked 2:04:23 at the 2023 London Marathon, hopes to
dip under 2:04 on the fast Dutch course.
Training
at Global Sports Communication’s camp in Kaptagat, Kamworor says his
preparation has been solid. “I’m coming to Rotterdam to break my PB.
Training
has been good, with proper nutrition and recovery being key,” he shared through
the NN Running Team.
Rotterdam
is known for producing fast times, with Belgium’s Bashir Abdi holding the
course record at 2:03:36 (2021).
The
city has also hosted two former world records—Portugal’s Carlos Lopes (2:07:12
in 1985) and Ethiopia’s Belayneh Dinsamo (2:06:50 in 1988).
Kamworor
enters the race fresh from a second-place finish at the Barcelona Half Marathon
(58:44) in February, where Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo set a world record (56:42).
However,
he is looking to rebound from a disappointing 2024 New York Marathon, where he
finished fifth in 2:08:50.
With
a marathon career spanning over a decade, Kamworor made his 42km debut at
Berlin 2012, finishing third (2:06:12).
He
placed third again in Berlin in 2013, as Wilson Kipsang set a world record
(2:03:23). In New York, he finished runner-up in 2015 (2:10:48) and third in
2018 (2:06:26).
Despite
past setbacks, Kamworor remains determined to set a new milestone in Rotterdam,
cementing his place among the world’s elite marathoners.
