Team Manager Boniface Imbenzi is now warning
rivals against underestimating the Kakamega-based side, as the league enters
its final stretch.
Homeboyz currently sit 5th on the 18-team
table with 42 points, just 10 behind league leaders Police FC, with six matches
left to play.
“There is a possibility (of Kakamega Homeboyz winning the KPL title this
season) because those league leaders have not played us. We have the
capacity to beat them and reduce the gap and move closer to them as well as
other opponents squeezing points from them,” noted Imbenzi.
He
continued, “The 10-point gap is not too much and I can
tell you that anybody from top six can still win the title this season.”
Homeboyz had a slow start to the
season but have rapidly dusted and picked themselves up and are able to deal with the tight
schedule of matches.
“We know that we are able to do something if those ahead of us can
stumble along the way, as long as we remain consistent with our good results in the
remaining matches,”
said the tactician.
Imbenzi credits the former FKF Cup champions’ seven-match
unbeaten streak across all competitions to the strong chemistry between head
coach Francis Barasa and his squad.
“It has not been a hidden secret that coach Francis Barasa has had a
brilliant relationship with our players and this has really helped the team to
collect good results.”
“Also, the confidence has been on another level as well as the stiff
competition within the squad which is always a good thing for any team to have
such selection headache problems,” he added.
Their remaining matches will see them face Posta Rangers, Police FC, Kariobang’i Sharks, Bidco United, Tusker and Mathare United.
