Kakamega County gears up for an unforgettable 11th KICOSCA games
Kakamega County is set to host the 11th edition of the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games from November 23 to 30, promising an exciting and memorable event.
The games will take place in Mumias and Kakamega towns, with participation from all 47 counties, a notable improvement from last year’s event in Meru, which featured 37 counties.
Kakamega secured the hosting rights ahead of Mombasa and Nyeri, with Governor Fernandes Barasa, the newly installed patron of KICOSCA, pledging to deliver the best edition yet.
The governor assured football fans that the county is determined to bring home the football title, which was last won by West Pokot County.
“I want to promise you that the 11th edition of KICOSCA will be an exciting event, especially as we are hosting it in Kakamega,” Governor Barasa stated.
“As the patron of these games for the next year, I assure you we will spare no effort to make this tournament unforgettable. At the end of it all, I hope that Kenya will emerge as the true winner,” he added.
This year’s games will feature 26 sporting and cultural activities, including the debut of women’s football.
The opening ceremony on November 24 will kick off with a football match between Kakamega County and Nairobi City County.
Governor Barasa highlighted Kakamega’s rich sporting and cultural heritage, emphasizing the county’s readiness to excel both on and off the field.
“In terms of culture, we have been champions for the last 11 years. Kakamega is the cathedral of sports, and we intend to dominate as we have in the past,” he said.
“This event is not only about competition but also about fostering unity among counties. We welcome healthy competition and look forward to meaningful interactions with our colleagues from across the country.”
With Kakamega’s commitment to excellence, the 11th KICOSCA Games promises to be a showcase of talent, camaraderie, and cultural celebration.
