Kabras coach Kaytwa backs Shujaa to roar ‘strongly’ in Dubai 7s
Shujaa suffered relegation from the World Series last year after finishing 13th and had to contend with spells in the second tier Challenger Series.
They reclaimed the core status instantly after defeating Germany in the relegation/promotion playoffs earlier this year.
“They always say it’s hard to box down a Kenyan because naturally they are built for resistance. That is what I expect from the team as they make a strong comeback in the series. The squad has quality and an experienced technical bench which has delivered in the past and I know they will deliver in the series,” said Kaytwa
In the opening leg in Dubai, Shujaa are pooled alongside France, South Africa and Australia, a group Kaytwa says is ‘perfect’ to help the Kevin Wambua-coached team to shake off the rust quickly as it offers ‘a tough challenge.’
“It is a tough pool that cannot allow any simple mistake because you will get punished. They have to be perfect in all departments and stick to the tactics that they have been given by the technical bench.”
Meanwhile, Katytwa was impressed by the handsome start to the new Kenya Cup season by Kabras who are eyeing an unprecedented four-peat. They launched their title defence with a 33-6 win over Impala.
“I am happy we started the campaign well. The young players were up to the task but it is going to be a tough season because teams like Menengai Oilers, Kenya Harlequins and KCB have really stepped up their game. So we will take one game at a time,” he added.
