Kabras coach Katywa slams Rhinos' high performance camps
Kabras Sugar Head Coach Carlos Katywa has expressed his disappointment with the selection of
rising star Jackson Siketa, to join Rhino’s high-performance camp in South
Africa.
According to Katywa, despite the program
recently incorporating some players from various clubs in Kenya, it has not
proven to improve their quality.
“This Rhino thing, we as Kabras are not really
aligned with it. I don’t know where it’s coming from; we keep hearing our
players are being selected but because we don’t want to stand between players
getting opportunities elsewhere, we overlook but to be honest it’s a waste of
time.
"We don’t play 10s rugby we play 15s and
7s; they go there to train 10s for five or seven months and they come back here
and there is nothing they’re doing there that they (players) are not getting
here. There is no major difference they bring back, no impact to the club. For
me it's a major waste of time," a clearly upset Katywa.
The South African tactician has taken issue
with the lack of proper approach by the selectors, saying he learned of his
player’s selection on the internet.
“I would like to know who is selecting these
players and why they don’t talk to their coaches. If they really want to do
something about these players, why are we not included in this communication.”
“My question is, you’re selecting a player
from my team but you’re not talking to me, how are you gonna get what you’ve been
told about this player, on how good he is, and the weaknesses that you want to
improve on?”
The elite program recently picked Kabras
Sugar’s rising star Jackson Siketa, Impala’s Andrew Matoka, Kisumu RFC’s David
Williams and Mwamba’s Dennis Ndayala to join the camp that will run until May,
2025.
