Brenda Achieng grabbed a brace while Patience Asiko scored one as Kenya's Junior Starlets sunk Uganda 3-0, to cruise to the third round of FIFA U-17 World Cup qualifiers on Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium - Nairobi.

The Mildred Cheche coached-side improved on their first round match, having beaten Uganda 0-2 in Kampala a week ago, underlining their hunger to qualify for a second FIFA World Cup fiesta in a row.

Despite the huge win, which sealed an emphatic 5-0 aggregate, the Ugandans showed laudable determination enjoying more possession especially in the first stanza.

The Ugandans were however not able to create meaningful chances in the final third, their main undoing in the game.

‎Kenya wasted no time asserting dominance, with Asiko opening the scoring in the 4th minute, calmly placing the ball into the net.

The Junior Starlets maintained control throughout the first half, heading into the break with a 1-0 lead despite a few challenges from Uganda.

‎In the second half, Kenya made several substitutions, including the introduction of Mwanakombo Bakari, Achieng and Joan Ogola to strengthen the attack.

Their efforts paid off in the 86th minute when Achieng doubled the lead after a brilliant assist from Joyangela Valencia.

‎While the Ugandans thought all was concluded at 2-0, Achieng struck again in stoppage time, sealing a resounding 3-0 victory for Kenya.

‎Head Coach Cheche praised the team's effort and unity, saying:

‎"Winning away in the first leg gave us confidence, and today we secured another three points. Our teamwork has been crucial to our success."

‎Team captain Halima Imbachi echoed her coach’s sentiments, adding:

‎"We are happy with the win and grateful for the support from fans and coaches. We are ready to face Cameroon in the next round," noted Imbachi.

‎The Junior Starlets will now face Cameroon, who progressed after defeating Ethiopia 6-3 on aggregate.

‎The Kenyan side, which has previously featured in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic, is eager to make history again.

‎With their impressive form and growing confidence, the Junior Starlets will be looking to overcome Cameroon and secure a ticket to the global stage.
