Junior Starlets fall to North Korea in U-17 World Cup
Harambee Junior Starlets were on Monday morning eliminated from medal contention after falling 3-0 to Korea DPR in Under 17 Women World Cup at the CFC Stadium in Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic.
The two-time champion dominated the match from the first whistle and utilized early chances with So Ryu-gyong scoring an early brace as Ho Kyong provided the assist on each in the eighth and 11th minutes with a look alike style.
Kuk Hyang added the last goal with a clinical header from a corner kick with four minutes before the final whistle.
Coach Mildred Cheche made a single change from the first match with Velma Awuor starting in the place of Lindey Atieno but still, Kenya did not register a single shot on target in the one sided encounter.
In another Group C match, ten-women England came from behind to thrash Mexico 4-2 and proceed to the last 8 of the tourney.
The Junior Starlets will now face Mexico in their last group match on Thursday at 2am with both teams already out after losing their first two matches with England and Korea DPR proceeding to the quarterfinals.
